Inside the π: How Hackathon Raptors Engineered a New Frontier for AI and Mathematics

Building the Bridge Between Ancient Numbers and Modern Intelligence

When Hackathon Raptors launched the π-Day AI Hackathon 2025, we set out to do more than host a coding event — we wanted to create a space where the timeless beauty of π would meet the limitless potential of artificial intelligence. Participants were challenged to reimagine how π could be used not just as a backdrop, but as a core foundation of their AI-driven projects.

In an era where algorithms shape industries and deep learning reveals hidden patterns, π remains a symbol of the mysterious structures underlying our universe. Our mission was to explore how mathematics and AI could together reveal new forms of creativity, engineering, and innovation.

"π has always been more than a number — it’s a bridge between the theoretical and the practical," said Vladislav Shakhrai, Technical Lead at Snap Inc. and one of our distinguished judges.

Building the Technical Engine

Delivering this vision required an infrastructure as ambitious as the theme itself. We engineered:

  • Cloud GPU Computing: Participants accessed powerful GPU resources, eliminating hardware barriers.
  • Premium AI APIs: Access to GPT-4 and Claude empowered teams to build sophisticated intelligent systems.
  • Real-Time π Libraries: Specialized libraries enabled high-precision π calculations, removing complexity and freeing teams to focus on creativity.
  • Security and Privacy Frameworks: Every project was evaluated for strong data protection, privacy by design, and secure architecture.

This setup allowed participants to push boundaries without being constrained by infrastructure, focusing fully on creative problem-solving.

The Minds Behind the Evaluation

Our diverse and highly qualified judging panel brought a wealth of industry and academic expertise, ensuring a thoughtful and rigorous evaluation of every project:

  • Vladislav Shakhrai — Technical Lead in Generative AI & 3D at Snap Inc., Kaggle Master (Top-150 globally), specialist in machine learning and computer vision.
  • Mahesh Kansara — Database Engineering Manager at Amazon Web Services (AWS), expert in cloud migration, scalable system design, and observability.
  • Igor Chumikov — Lead iOS Developer at ConsultantPlus, former iOS developer at Ozon, with deep expertise in SwiftUI, app architecture, and mobile development.

Their combined experience across AI, cloud infrastructure, mobile development, and system scalability ensured that each submission received expert, multifaceted feedback.

Among the Standout Projects

The hackathon generated a wave of extraordinary innovation. Highlights included:

  • Pi Loom by Sanjay Sah: An AI-powered music composer transforming the digits of π into harmonious musical patterns. This project won First Place Overall
  • Pi Cipher by Team 3pi4: A creative cryptographic system encoding messages into hexadecimal sequences of π, securing Second Place Overall
  • PiVerse by Team PI-ES: A real-time, dynamic visualization platform revealing hidden patterns within π’s infinite digits, which took Third Place Overall

Each project demonstrated not only technical excellence but also a deep creative engagement with π as a fundamental concept.

Overcoming Real Engineering Challenges

The intersection of AI and π presented real-world technical hurdles:

  • Efficient Data Handling: Teams had to process vast numerical sequences with optimized memory and computational strategies.
  • Low-Latency AI Applications: Solutions like Rhythm of Pi demanded real-time responsiveness despite heavy AI model computations.
  • Security and Privacy: Prototypes like AI Interview Taker Bot incorporated strong privacy-by-design principles even during fast-paced development.

"Balancing the sophistication of AI systems with the responsiveness needed for smooth user experiences was one of the toughest challenges," noted Mahesh Kansara.

Legacy Beyond the Hackathon

The π-Day AI Hackathon 2025 wasn’t just about short-term innovation. Several projects are already being open-sourced or entering further development stages. The technical patterns explored — hybrid edge/cloud computing, creative numerical representations, and multimodal AI integrations — are extending far beyond the theme of π.

"Projects like Pi Loom and Pi Cipher show that when you treat mathematics not just as a constraint but as a catalyst for creativity, you unlock new frontiers," concluded Vladislav Shakhrai.

Through the fusion of timeless mathematics and next-generation AI, Hackathon Raptors has reaffirmed that the future belongs to those bold enough to build it — one elegant equation at a time.
